Anser, which has been represented by Liftec for a long time on the Czech and Slovak markets, presented a new intelligent print head for thermal inkjet printing. This is the so-called “smart” head, this means that the control unit is also integrated in the head itself. Thanks to this, the head is capable of autonomous operation without connection to other devices, such as a control unit, PC, PLC, etc.
In the future, the new intelligent printhead should replace the older Anser U2 Pro and Anser Smart printers. The main advantage of this new product is the simple operation and very small dimensions, thanks to which the printers can be implemented in machines and production lines with a lack of space. A very important aspect is also the price, which is even lower than in the case of printers from the U2 series.
Intelligent print head design
The smart print head can be used both with a cartridge with a print height of 12.7 mm (i.e. 0.5″) and with a cartridge with a print height of 25.4 mm (i.e. 1″), both on absorbent and non-absorbent materials . Printing on the product is possible from above and from the side. Printing from the bottom up, as in the case of CIJ printers, is not possible. To make the whole system as versatile as possible, the heads can be stacked on top of each other. In this way, it is possible to achieve a print height of over 100 mm, in the case of using 4 cartridges with dimensions of 25.4 mm. The entire head is composed of two parts. After the first assembly, the operator does not disassemble it for the entire lifetime of the printer.
The first part of the head represents the opening for the print cartridge. After insertion, the cartridge is locked with a red lever, i.e. a fuse. This part can be ordered with or without the plexiglass dust cover shown in the picture above. Removing and reinserting the cartridge is a matter of a few seconds. In the frontal part, you can also see a small hole where the internal sensor for starting the print is hidden. If necessary, an external sensor or encoder can be connected directly to the second part of the print head.
The second part of the head is the control electronics with five signaling diodes, I/O inputs, buttons for turning the printer on and off, USB, input for an external sensor, encoder, etc. This part can be seen on the back of the head. All the cabling also goes into it.
Control software
Control of the print head (e.g. print start/stop, message selection, direction) is possible via the buttons on the back. And how are press releases actually created? Xonnect software is used to create press releases, which is free for controlling one print head. In this software, reports can be created, edited and their parameters changed. The given message is then transferred to the printer most often via the TCP/IP protocol, i.e. over a standard corporate network, where the print head has its IP address predefined. It is thus possible to conveniently create reports in the office, for example, and upload them remotely to the print head. Another option is to use a computer directly at the print head, on which the Xonnect software will be installed, and thus control the head directly at the production line.
